Saito Yasuhiro sensei’s first international seminar – Torino – Italy

Waka Sensei Torin 2016 On February 13-14, 2016 we were honored to host Yasuhiro Saito Sensei in Torino (Italy) for his very first international seminar. This visit is an historical event beginning the 3rd generation of Saito family seminars in Torino. The seminar has been hosted at the Dynamic Dojo in the small town of La Loggia. The Dynamic Dojo is an historical location where Morihiro Saito Sensei and Hitohira Saito Sensei thought several times.

After relaxing on Friday to recover from the long trip, Yasuhiro Sensei met with several students regularly visiting Iwama for a very friendly dinner. It was the best way to join old friends and prepare for the seminar.

The seminar started on Saturday morning with a class of buky waza where Yasuhiro Sensei started from reviewing the basics of the Iwama weapons practice. The seminar was a tremendous success as Yasuhiro Sensei worked the group gradually through an increasingly complex practice. There were students on the mat ranging in age from 10 to 74, 5th kyu to 8th dan, and students from many different countries. We all practiced in a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

As the local organizer I would like to thank Yasuhiro Sensei for honoring me by accepting the invitation to visit Torino. Also, I would like to thank Alessandro Tittarelli Sensei and Tristao Da Cunha Sensei for the huge support during the organization. Last but not least I would like to thank all teachers that gave a big support helping with the registration activity.

Finally, let me dedicate this seminar to a special person, my first teacher Giovanni Gerbi Sensei that is not anymore with us. He met Yasuhiro Sensei in Iwama when he was just a 13 years old boy. I’m sure he would have been happy to see him visiting his city.

I hope this will be the first of many great seminars.
